MindsPlus was established in 2007 to provide psychological support to people living and working in rural and remote regions of Australia. Knowing generally it’s not as easy for people in these communities to access expert psychological support, compared to those in urban areas, so we wanted to help make this support available.
Although our main focus is to support rural and remote communities our services are also available and used by people in urban areas as we provide flexibility and choice of how the service is delivered regardless of where you live.
We also have a particular interest in providing support to mining families as together we have more than 30 years experience working in oil/mining/remote areas. Apart from our professional experience most clinicians also have personal experience in mining or rural/remote areas.
Our vision is to make expert psychological support and guidance easily accessible regardless of where someone lives, that it is convenient, effective and prompt.
Due to the difficulties of fulfilling this vision over long distances we provide therapy by as many different means as possible, extending the way therapy is traditionally provided. Rather than only providing therapy in person we also deliver therapy other ways to provide options and encourage you to make choices which suit you.
Therefore our service is client centred; respectful of your rights to have and make choices for yourself.
Depending on what is available, a combination of ways therapy is provided can be used to suit you; it doesn’t have to be just one. For example you can have some consultations in-person and others by telephone to allow more frequent appointments if needed.
Essentially the research evidence to date indicates that the outcomes of therapy are equally effective regardless of the methods used to provide therapy.
Our name reflects our philosophy and aims.
