Good news for rural Australians, Medicare rebates for psychology consultations via video has been announced.
MindsPlus has been providing video consultation for many years, as well as by telephone and psychologists regularly visiting rural areas, to help improve access and provide timely psychological support for those living in rural and remote locations. The lack of Medicare rebates available for consultations other than face-to-face has hindered the ability of some people to access support when needed, so the announcement that Medicare rebates will be available for video-consultations is welcome news.

Of course internet coverage and reliability is essential for this service and from our experience sometimes has to be complemented with telephone consultations when the technology fails. Whether swapping to telephone contact when necessary is allowable under this initiative is still unknown at this time.
